​The idea of Discord came from the mythical being Citron, who had supported OpenFeint, a social play platform for mobile games, and Stanislav Vishnevsky, who had founded Guildwork, another social gaming platform.

Citron oversubscribed OpenFeint to GREE in 2011 for US$104 million, and he accustomed to finding Hammer & Chisel, a game development studio, in 2012.

Their first product was Fates Forever, discharged in 2014, which Citron anticipated being the primary MOBA game on mobile platforms, however, it didn't become commercially successful.
